Welcome to HSC
The Hakataramea Sustainability Collective (HSC) is a community driven platform, which helps with the protection and enhancement of the Hakataramea Valley environment by promoting profitable and sustainable farming practices and supporting our community to thrive.

Innovative thinking, knowledge sharing, and community spirit are strong values within the Hakataramea Valley. HSC provides a platform from which to amplify these values through the sharing of ideas, concerns, and opportunities in an open forum.

Thanks to the community enthusiasm, passionate volunteers, local business backing and guidance from supporting organisations, we have managed to achieve the following, with plenty more to come:
- Establishment of a recreation area approx. 1km upstream from the Hakataramea highway bridge. This includes river access and large picnic area with BBQ and a covered picnic table.

- We have run well-attended field days and workshops to educate locals about sustainable farming practices to foster the long-term viability of the Valley’s farming businesses. Topics have included challenging thinking on the future of farming in the Valley, management of weeds and pests and animal feed and health.
​
- We work closely with industry organisations to invite learning and wellbeing opportunities into the area. And have benefited from the B+LNZ water and carbon workshops, and a social gathering, which was a collaborative effort thanks to a number of organisations.
