HSC Community

According to the 2018 census the population of the Hakataramea Valley was approximately 345.

 

Properties within the valley include farming businesses ranging in size, lifestyle blocks and a small number of holiday houses and residential dwellings.

The Hakataramea Township and Valley are part of the South Canterbury region and the Waimate District Council. The closest service town is Kurow, which is on the South side of the Waitaki River and hence part of the Otago region and Waitaki District Council.

A key objective of the Hakataramea Sustainability Collective (HSC) is to support and nurture our vibrant, strong community.  To this end, we have worked closely with our community organisations to develop an Emergency Response Plan and a community Welcome Pack for newcomers to the area.
