Hakataramea Valley Integrated Catchment Plan

Updated: Aug 16

The Hakataramea Sustainability Collective (HSC) began developing an Integrated Catchment Plan (ICP) for the Hakataramea Valley catchment in 2022. Integrated catchment planning takes a holistic approach and recognises that all the elements of an ecosystem, including the people, are connected.

The ICP aims to support land managers to improve sustainable land-use, meet environmental standards, and enhance community resilience in socio-economic and ecological domains.

The integrated catchment plan was developed as part of a two and a half year Productive and Sustainable Land Use (PSLU) project funded by the Ministry for Primary Industries.

The main objectives of the project were:

  1. Develop a catchment-specific integrated environmental plan to support landowners to improve sustainable land-use, meet environmental standards, and enhance community resilience in socio-economic and ecological domains.

  2. Support landowners to draw on these integrated environmental plan resources and research to create and strengthen their individual FEP’s.

  3. Carry out demonstration projects to support capability building of landowners to action their FEP’s and improve environmental health.
