Botanical name (authority): Coprosma propinqua A.Cunn.


Mingimingi (Coprosma propinqua) is a dense, bushy shrub or small tree with shiny, bright green oval leaves and small white to pale green flowers. It produces bright orange to red berries that are attractive to birds.


It is common in lowland to montane forests, scrub, and shrublands. Tolerates a wide range of soils and conditions, including damp and dry sites. Prefers full sun to partial shade.

Propagation and planting tips

Sow fresh seed in spring after removing fleshy fruit. Semi-hardwood cuttings root well in summer. Plant in well-drained soils with moderate moisture.
